Prayerful Gardens: Dusting the crops. Too much?
It was Father's Day, late afternoon about 4 PM. The first Japanese Beetle arrived to skeletonize grape leaves in the vineyard. Mature leaves with tender, young shoots. Fruit had appeared for the first time in our growing history. But, after last year's battle with 2,000 beetles captured by the bags, we decided to dust the crops. Too much?

These days, we're growing grapes, raising tomatoes and babysitting kiwi plants. Following two weeks of heavy rain, soils are saturated and gardeners are pressed for quick solutions. If leaves are falling on the kiwi plant, it could be due to many causes.

Prayerful Gardens: Lights Out!
Last night's tropical storm reached SE Ohio at 9:15 PM. Brown funnel-type clouds approached from the west while the neighbors and I stood outside in silence gazing upward in disbelief. Within minutes, high winds raged across the area mounting fears of a tornado. I went back inside immediately. Without underground shelter, I was terrified.

Life Styles: Private Parties on Pine Street
There were parties all along Pine Street this St. Patrick's Day in Morristown, on porches and in backyards as well as at the Dublin Pub. There was even a tailgate party. No wonder. With 60 degree temps, today was ideal for outdoor drinking, tee shirts, and party hats. Police were everywhere keeping "the peace" while a block away, bodies were crammed on balconies at George & Martha's. Where did all this beer come from?
